Avelo announces 10 new routes, 2 new bases in latest expansion

Avelo Airlines continued its 2024 expansion by announcing 10 new routes and two new bases.

North Carolina featured heavily in Wednesday’s announcement, with Avelo’s three destinations in the state combining to land seven of the 10 new routes.

Avelo will add three new routes from Wilmington International Airport (ILM) and two from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), which sits about 25 miles from uptown Charlotte. Both those airports will become bases for Avelo; this means that the carrier will position two of its Boeing 737s at Concord by April 2025 and three in Wilmington “later in 2025.”

Avelo is also making a splash in North Carolina with its first two international routes outside its bases in Connecticut. Those flights — to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — will begin in February from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), which already was a crew base for Avelo.

Once the new routes begin, Avelo will fly nonstop to 27 destinations from North Carolina.

Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy described that growth as “just the beginning” for Avelo in the state.

“Establishing bases in Charlotte and Wilmington, as well as our international expansion at our RDU base, enables us to bring even more affordable, convenient and industry-leading reliability to more destinations,” Levy said in a statement. “This means even more choice for travelers from across North Carolina while making it even easier for more people to visit the state from elsewhere across the East Coast and abroad.”

Avelo’s expansion also includes three new routes beyond the Tar Heel State that add new nonstops between cities the carrier already serves. They include two from Nashville — to Rochester, New York, and Wilmington, Delaware — and another between Manchester, New Hampshire, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
