You can now earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on Aer Lingus
If you’re an American Airlines AAdvantage member, you can now earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on most Aer Lingus-issued and -operated tickets, as first reported by Award Wallet.
Aer Lingus is part of International Airlines Group, which also owns Oneworld partners British Airways and Iberia.
On Oct. 18, 2023, American implemented revenue-based mileage earning on British Airways- and Iberia-issued and -operated tickets (instead of earning based on the distance and fare class of your flight).
Consistent with October’s British Airways and Iberia shift, you’ll earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points based on the price of your Aer Lingus ticket.
Here’s what you need to know about earning AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on Aer Lingus.
Aer Lingus is an earn-only partner of American
Aer Lingus terminated its codeshare agreement with United Airlines on Friday, Oct. 27, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Aer Lingus and American Airlines have a codeshare partnership, which was developed in early 2022.

Now, you can earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on most Aer Lingus-issued and -operated tickets. Specifically, these Aer Lingus fare classes are eligible for mileage and Loyalty Point accrual:

You’ll earn miles and Loyalty Points on the base fare and carrier-imposed fees. You generally can’t earn on all other taxes and fees that go into your ticket’s price.
As a reminder, your AAdvantage accruals depend on your status:

If you’re an AAdvantage Platinum Pro member traveling on an eligible Aer Lingus- and American-issued ticket with a base fare of $1,000, you’d earn 9,000 miles and Loyalty Points.
Bottom line
If you’re traveling on an eligible paid Aer Lingus ticket, you can now earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points. Know, though, that you currently can’t redeem American miles or receive elite status benefits on Aer Lingus.
If you’re an American Airlines loyalist, be sure to add your AAdvantage number to your ticket the next time you fly Aer Lingus so you can accrue additional AAdvantage earnings.
